Sciatica is commonly known as sets of symptoms that include pain caused by compression and irritation around sciatic nerves.  It is often misunderstood by many people. They take it in understanding that sciatica does not explain the cause of the pain for it is itself the pain caused by some irritation. You can categorize it to a disease or a diagnosis. It is often called sciatica when an irritation occurs. Sciatica resulted from the irritation and inflammation of the sciatic nerves.

There are various incidences that cause sciatica.  Generally, it is caused by the compression of the sciatic nerves. When it is caused with a compression of the dorsal nerve, it is considered a radiculitis when accompanied with inflammatory response.

One of the causes of sciatica is the spinal disc herniation pressing on one of the sciatic nerve. Herniation occurs when the liquid center of the disc swell outwards, tearing the external ring of fibers, pushed out into the spinal canal, and compresses a nerve root against the lamina of a vertebra.  It can be caused by tumors hitting the spinal cord or the nerve roots. A cause that includes spinal stenosis is a condition to which the spaces through which the spinal cord runs narrows and compresses the spinal cord. Sciatic nerve runs through the periformis syndrome and not behind it. 

When spasms occurred due to trauma, it can dominate to the compression of sciatic nerves beneath the muscle. Periformis syndrome can be a cause of sciatica when the nerve root is normal. An active trigger point of the lower back is another source of sciatic symptoms.  It occurs when muscle lack flow blood due to injury and muscle contraction. Sciatica can also be experienced by pregnant women. It is a compression due to carrying extra weight in the uterus. It is even acquired even after giving birth. Habits also cause sciatica. This is probably an extended standing on a period of time throughout the day.

Patients suffering from sciatica are advised to do some exercise. Some are advised to take a rest in bed for a day or two. It could not exceed to that since the over stay in bed could result to so much pain. The doctor will not tolerate such attitude that may result to a more complicated situation.

Sciatica can give reliefs to the patients through some exercise. This exercise is far more different based on what causes the pain.  It targeted the muscles through stretching exercise making the muscles work properly enabling the speedy recovery in the process. Doing the exercise with a professional ensures you that to have done it properly.  Exercises in Sciatica can be enumerated as Piriformis stretch. It is stretching the piriformes muscle.  Back extension and Cat stretch are two exercises for sciatica stretching your lower back that helps leave pressure on the sciatic nerve in the area.  Hamstring Stretch 1 and the Hamstring stretch 2 are exercises which will relieve pressure in the sciatic nerve in the thighs are preferably.
